Data Storytelling Fellowship

2023

Ongoing

Baraza Media Lab and Fringe Graph are thrilled to announce the launch of the second cycle of the Data Storytelling Fellowship, a joint initiative that aims to strengthen evidence-based journalism by equipping journalists and storytellers with data storytelling skills, enabling them to become critical evidence consumers and communicators.
In the first cycle, the Fellowship supported individuals from various parts of Kenya who attended workshops, participated in instructor-led training sessions and collaborated with one another. Three of the journalists had their work published in notable media outlets such as Nation Africa, The Star and Africa Uncensored, marking a successful inaugural year.

The 2023 edition of the Fellowship will focus on the real-world application of data skills for storytelling, with a theme of Women in Public Life; Politics, Media and Management. The program will provide an opportunity for the fellows to enhance their data storytelling skills through facilitated training sessions and workshops. They will collaborate with other journalists to complete a gradual work-related project and build a mutually supportive and accountable fellowship cohort and moderated online community. They will learn valuable and applicable skills that will enable them to tell compelling and thought provoking stories using data. Their projects will contribute to the Women in Public Life discourse by exploring the challenges they face and highlighting their roles and achievements in their respective leadership positions.

Congratulations to the 2023 Data Storytelling Cohort! We look forward to seeing how their skills and creativity will strengthen evidence based journalism and storytelling.
